DUBLIN, CA — Get out the pumpkins, gourds, and scarecrows: Dublin is launching a Fall Home Decorating Contest. For many years, the city has launched a Deck The Homes decorating contest in December, awarding prizes for the most festive holiday decorations. Now the contest is starting earlier, and celebrating fall traditions around the world.
Registration is now open through Oct. 12. Judging will take place Oct. 15-25, and the city will publish a map of participating homes so community members can vote for the People's Choice Award winners. All winners will be announced on Halloween, and will receive a yard sign, local business gift card, and certificate of recognition from the City Council.
Homes can enter several categories:
The Great Fall Glow-Off (People's Choice Award): Selected by the public, this category celebrates standout displays of every style, including Halloween, Día de los Muertos, harvest decor, and other creative interpretations of the season.
Festival of Lights Award: Honors displays inspired by Diwali and other light-centered traditions, featuring diyas, lanterns, rangoli, vibrant colors, and symbols of light, joy, and renewal. To accommodate Diwali celebrations, registration is open until Oct. 20. The photo submission deadline is Nov. 10, and winners will be announced Nov. 13.
Harvest, Heritage & Remembrance Award: Honors displays celebrating fall traditions and cultural heritage, including Día de los Muertos altars, harvest celebrations, and other autumnal expressions.
Spirits & Spooktacular Scenes Award: Celebrations fun, spooky, and imaginative Halloween-themed displays.
Cozy, Coven & Lantern Loft Award: Celebrates creativity in smaller spaces, including balconies, patios, entryways, and porches.
