DUBLIN, CA — Patch reached out to all candidates running for mayor and city council in Dublin, and reprinted their answers to our questionnaire verbatim.
In Dublin, three candidates are running for mayor, including incumbent Sherry Hu. Four candidates are running for Council District 2, in the northeastern part of the city; and two candidates are running for District 4 in the southeast, including incumbent Kashef Qaadri.
Dublin switched to district-based elections in 2024, and this is the first year that Districts 2 and 4 are electing their own candidates.
Below, read the responses of Tejpreet Singh, an investor with legal training running to represent District 2.
What is your educational background?
I) Master of Law (LL.M) from UCLA SCHOOL OF LAW. 2) JD/LL.B 3) Bachelors in Social Legal Science
What is your professional background?
I am an investor and currently on Sabbatical from the legal field. I have been investing in real estate & technology companies for the past 5 years. I'm planning to return to the legal field by mid next year. My experience spans across corporate legal affairs, business operations and investment.
Have you ever held public office, whether appointive or elective?
No, but I have worked with members of the public to help them in various aspects, taken time away from my profession to educate in order to give it back to the community.
What are the top three issues facing Dublin right now?
Public safety.
The reported crime figures for 2024–2025 show aggravated assaults increasing from 62 to 70, domestic violence from 121 to 131, residential burglaries from 39 to 45, and sex offenses from 20 to 28.I will prioritize crime prevention and reliable emergency services, alongside safe routes to school, improved pedestrian crossings, and well-maintained streets and sidewalks. As a father of two, making our neighborhoods safer and more accessible is personal to me.
Families, seniors, and working people need more affordable housing options. For calendar year 2025, Dublin reported four completed deed-restricted affordable homes and issued building permits for 171 affordable homes. I would prioritize turning that pipeline into completed housing while coordinating growth with transportation, school capacity, utilities, and public services, and protecting open space.
I support Dublin's preferred downtown vision and want to advance its implementation.(Explained below)
What is one specific action you would prioritize during your first year in office?
I would prioritize a funded street and sidewalk repair plan, starting with the most hazardous conditions on Village Parkway, Amador Valley Boulevard, Sierra Court, Sierra Lane and other neighborhood streets. Residents who buy or rent homes in Dublin deserve at least safe, well-maintained infrastructure. We should address urgent hazards while planning major reconstruction. I would work with city staff and fellow councilmembers to identify repairs that can be accelerated, prioritize pedestrian safety and accessibility, and establish a public repair schedule with funding sources and progress updates. Operating surpluses do not mean every dollar is available for construction but residents deserve a clear explanation of how available resources can address urgent needs. My first-year goal would be to secure Council approval for the plan and begin priority repairs, especially near schools, parks, and busy pedestrian routes.
Dublin continues to add housing and consider new developments. How should the city determine where additional growth belongs, and how should it ensure that transportation, schools and other infrastructure keep pace?
I support responsible growth that expands housing choices while protecting open space and maintaining residents' quality of life. I would prioritize housing near transit, jobs, shops, and existing services, including redevelopment of suitable underused sites.
Growth decisions should consider affordability, transportation access, environmental impacts, and the capacity of utilities and public services. Residents should have meaningful opportunities to participate early in planning.
I would advocate for a coordinated infrastructure plan developed with the school district, transportation agencies and utility providers. It should identify needed improvements, funding sources, and delivery schedules alongside projected housing growth. Developers should contribute their fair share toward infrastructure improvements.
The city should publish progress reports all online platform so residents can see whether promised improvements are keeping pace. My goal is more housing including affordable homes supported by safe streets, reliable services, and realistic planning.
What is your vision for Downtown Dublin, and what concrete action would you take to create a more distinctive, walkable and economically successful city center?
My vision is a distinctive, walkable downtown where residents can shop, dine, enjoy community events, and support local businesses. It should reflect Dublin's history and diverse community, with welcoming public spaces, shade, seating, and safe pedestrian connections.
I support advancing Dublin's preferred downtown vision through a phased implementation plan with clear milestones, funding sources, and public progress reports. I would work with residents, businesses, and property owners to identify improvements that can begin promptly while larger projects proceed.
My priorities would include filling vacant storefronts which are more visible when you visit downtown and reflects city of Dublin whoever visits, making the permitting process clearer and more predictable, improving crossings, sidewalks and encouraging a mix of local shops, restaurants, housing, and services. Community events and temporary uses of vacant spaces could help attract visitors thru AB1679 recently signed by Governor.
Success should be measured through storefront occupancy, business retention, pedestrian activity, and completed improvements. I want residents to see steady progress toward a downtown they enjoy visiting.
How do we best ensure Dublin remains a safe community?
Keeping Dublin safe requires effective emergency response, prevention and public trust. I would work to ensure police and fire services have the staffing, training and resources needed to respond promptly, while reviewing performance and spending.
I would prioritize crime prevention through community policing, neighborhood partnerships, support for victims and coordination with schools and mental health professionals. Residents should feel comfortable reporting crimes and seeking help with everyone treated fairly and respectfully.
Safety also means preventing injuries. I would advocate for safer school routes, improved crossings and lighting, traffic calming where needed, and timely repairs to damaged streets and sidewalks. Emergency preparedness including clear communication during fires, power outages, and other disasters must also be part of our approach.
I would support regular public reporting on crime trends, response times, traffic injuries, and progress on safety improvements. As a father of two, I want every family to feel safe at home and moving around Dublin.
Why do you feel you're a better candidate than your opponents?
My legal education, professional experience, and investments in real estate and technology gives me a broad perspective on the decisions facing Dublin. I earned an LL.M. in Business Law from UCLA School of Law together with professional experiences I can evaluate complex proposals, financial implications, and legal risks.
As an immigrant and father of two, I understand the challenges of building a life here and raising a family amid high living costs. I speak English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali fluently, helping me connect with residents in their native languages and make local government more accessible.
My priorities are safer neighborhoods, repaired streets and sidewalks, affordable housing, and a thriving downtown. Through canvassing and public information videos publishing everyday on my Instagram platform. I am already engaging residents. I would bring careful research, accessibility, and accountability to Council.
