DUBLIN, CA — Dublin Mayor Sherry Hu remains favored to keep her seat as mayor of Dublin, beating off two challengers. Nearby, incumbent mayors of Danville and Pleasanton also appear poised to keep their seats.

Hu, who has served on the city council since 2020 and as mayor since 2024, was ahead with 58.79% of the vote as of 2:07 a.m. Wednesday. Councilmember Michael McCorriston trailed with 33.74%, followed by writer and entrepreneur Kiran Mohammad with 7.47 percent.

"While ballots are still being counted, I am deeply grateful for the strong support reflected in the results so far and for the trust Dublin voters have placed in me. I see this as encouragement for the progress our City staff, Council, and community have achieved together over the past two years, and for our shared vision of a safe, strong, and sustainable Dublin," Hu said in a statement.

Hu, a financial planner and architectural engineer, listed public safety, thoughtful growth, advancing downtown Dublin, attracting commercial investment and jobs to the Fallon East Economic Development Zone, and expanding arts and recreation opportunities as her central priorities.

McCorriston, a finance professional elected to the council in 2020, listed public safety, responsible growth, and fiscal sustainability as the city's top priorities. Mohammad, an entrepreneur and writer, listed youth mental health, housing affordability, and responsive government as her top priorities for the city.

Four newcomers competed to represent District 2 in northeastern Dublin. While the numbers were relatively close, chemist Richard Thornbury took the lead as of 2:07 a.m. Wednesday.

"Thank you Dublin for your trust and support. I am encouraged by the results so far, and I look forward to working with the next council to make sure Dublin continues to thrive," Thornbury said in a statement. "I also want to thank the other candidates in the District 2 race: Steven Lorey, Daniel Hor, and Tejpreet Singh. It was an honor to share the campaign trail with great candidates who are so committed to our community."

Lorey, a military intelligence analyst and Camp Park executive, echoed similar sentiment and congratulated Thornbury on social media. "It was a good race, and a good man won. Richard ran a positive, hard-working campaign, and District 2 is in great hands. I look forward to supporting him and working together for the community we both love," he said.

In District 4 in southeastern Dublin, Kashef Qaadri, a tech executive who has served on the city council since 2022, retained a roughly 300-vote lead over challenger Shivraj Singh as of Wednesday morning.

"The early results are very promising, and I'm encouraged by the support from Dublin residents. We will need time for Alameda County to complete its count and certify the final results, but I'm grateful for the confidence residents have placed in me," Qaadri said in a statement to Patch. "Regardless of how someone voted, I want every Dubliner to know that I am committed to representing them. Bringing our community together, listening to residents, and finding common ground will remain central to my approach."

Results are also in for Dublin Unified School Board of Trustees Areas 3 and 5. In Area 3, Tanner Frye, an energy compliance inspector and former educator, remained ahead of Shalini Bhandari, an energy and sustainability manager.

The seat was previously held by Carolina Martinez, who was appointed in 2024 and did not seek election. If Frye wins, he will hold it for two years before seeking re-election.

In a candidate forum, Bhandari supported teaching students to use AI responsibly, emphasizing career and college readiness. Frye favored much tighter restrictions on student AI use, citing concerns about accuracy and its effects on learning.

In Area 5, Dan Cherrier, a civil engineer who has served on the board since 2016, faced Seema Badar, a parent volunteer and former chair of the district's Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee.

In a candidate forum, Cherrier emphasized fiscal restraint and addressing overcrowding at Fallon Middle School, while Badar prioritized academic achievement, student mental health, and greater transparency. The candidates also expressed disagreement on labor negotiations following the 2026 teachers' strike.
