Artists Sought For Dublin Utility Box Art Project

DUBLIN, CA - From the City of Dublin: The City of Dublin invites qualified professional artists, or high school student-artists working under the supervision of an art teacher, to submit designs for painted utility boxes, September 1 through October 31, 2017.

Following its successful Utility Box Art pilot project along Village Parkway last spring, the Dublin City Council has approved funding for eight more traffic signal cabinets owned by the City of Dublin to be painted along Amador Valley Boulevard and Dublin Boulevard in Spring 2018. Winning artists will be paid a $1,000 stipend per box painted or, if the artist is a student or student team, to the supervising art teacher.

Designs must, in some way, include or relate to Dublin’s brand, “The New American Backyard,” weaving in the culture, history, and natural beauty of Dublin. The Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission will review and recommend designs to the Dublin City Council. The City Council is expected to award contracts to artists in January, with all eight boxes to be painted by June.

Applications are available online at www.dublin.ca.gov/utilityboxart. All proposals must be received by Heritage and Cultural Arts Supervisor Laura Johnston by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
