Internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Charito returns to Meyhouse Jazz with a special program celebrating the music and spirit of Shirley Bassey.
Flying in from Japan for this performance, Charito brings the expressive power, elegance, and emotional depth that have made her one of the standout voices in the Japanese jazz scene. Her album Non-Stop to Brazil, recorded with Brazilian legend Ivan Lins, received the Swing Journal Gold Disc Award and Swing Journal Best Vocal Award 2004. She was also described by Tokyo Jazz as “one of the most individual and creative jazz vocalists” in Japan’s jazz circuit.
Her career has included recordings and performances with legendary artists including Herbie Hancock, Michel Legrand, Roy Hargrove, Terence Blanchard, Harvey Mason, the Manhattan Jazz Orchestra, and Ivan Lins.
For this special program, Charito brings her own jazz sensibility to Shirley Bassey’s world of drama, elegance, and unforgettable song. Expect bold melodies, expressive storytelling, and timeless glamour — reimagined through Charito’s distinctive voice.
