Award-winning chorus sings at 1pm and 4pm on June 4 at First Presbyterian Church in Livermore. Free admission for children under 18.
Now in its 24th season, Cantabella Children's Chorus will present its spring concert, "Simple Gifts: A Bouquet of Choral Treats," on Saturday, June 4 at 1pm and 4pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 2020 5th St., Livermore.
Celebrating the joys of spring from a variety of cultures, musical time periods and languages, the 1pm concert will feature the training choirs (ages 5 to 10) and a sampling of songs performed by the Honors, Chamber and Junior Honors choirs. The performing choirs (ages 10 to 18) will present their full repertoire in the 4pm concert.
The choirs—consisting of more than 200 local students—will perform pieces by W. A. Mozart, J. S. Bach, and John Rutter as well as works that explore the depth and richness of the human voice. Selections include Eatnemen Vuelie, a Scandinavian folk song by Frode Fjellheim, traditional South African tunes Bawo Thixo Somandla and Shosholoza, Essassa by Japanese composer Ko Matsushita, and Zurrun-Zurrun by Spanish composer Javier Busto.
