Death at Santa Rita Jail Investigated as a Homicide, Sheriff’s Officials Say

Detectives were still at the jail at noon Tuesday.

DUBLIN, CA — An inmate allegedly killed his cellmate Tuesday morning, Alameda County sheriff's officials said. The incident happened inside the Dublin jail at about 8:50 a.m., sheriff's officials said via Twitter. Detectives were still at the jail at noon.

"This occurred in a special behavioral health housing unit that caters to inmates with mental illness and other behavioral issues," sheriff's officials said. "The suspect has been isolated. We are in the process of notifying the victims family and are unable to release names at this time."
