Downtown development cutting down Heritage oak trees on San Ramon Road for another Starbucks
SAVE DUBLIN'S HERITAGE OAK TREES!
SAVE DUBLIN'S HERITAGE OAK TREES!
Dubliners stand to lose two of our cherished Heritage trees if an application making its way through City Hall is approved. Sutter Retail Development Corporation has filed an application requesting the removal of two of Dublin's oak trees to facilitate their development of a drive-through Starbucks.
The proposed site, located in our downtown retail district is not vested. As such, the City is under no obligation to approve the project including the removal of the oaks that are protected under the City's Heritage Tree Ordinance. Adopted in 1999, the Council recognized the importance of preserving our trees. Their passage of Dublin's Heritage Tree Ordinance was intended "to enhance the scenic beauty; increase property values; encourage quality development...." Sutter Retail's proposal compromises those principles and the Council's desire (and the Community's) to preserve our trees for future generations.

PROJECT APPLICANT: Sutter Retail Development Corporation, Yuba City, CA
OUR POSITION:
Dubliners for Change supports retail development for our downtown over residential but we oppose Sutter Retail's application to REMOVE our Heritage Trees and their proposed drive-thru for the following reasons:
o The Oak Trees are protected under the City's Heritage Tree Ordinance and should be preserved
And protected as provided for by the Council since l999.
o Dublin has lost hundreds of mature trees with the construction of thousands of new residential
Units in recent years.
o We must retain the remaining beauty of our city including the preservation of Heritage trees for future
Generations and for our quality of life.
o There are viable alternatives to the current proposal which would preserve our trees and ensure a pedestrian friendly downtown.
