Driver Using Cell Phone Nabbed Following Chase In Dublin

Two suspects, who will likely never forget to make phone calls "hands-free" while driving in the future, were arrested Thursday.

DUBLIN, CA — Two people were arrested in Dublin Thursday evening following a short foot pursuit after being stopped for using a cell phone while driving, a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol said. Undercover officers from the San Francisco Police Department were following a suspect vehicle driving eastbound on Interstate 580 in Castro Valley when a CHP officer spotted the driver in that car using a cellular phone.

The CHP officer stopped the vehicle on Hopyard Road in Dublin. When the officer approached the car, the driver drove off but in his attempt to escape, he got stuck on a raised center median. The driver and passenger ditched the car and fled on foot.

Officers from the CHP, San Francisco Police Department, Dublin Police Services and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office quickly captured both men, who were wanted on suspicion of robbery, according to the CHP.
