Dublin Appoints Hazel Wetherford As Deputy City Manager
Wetherford, currently the city's economic development director, will take on her new role July 31.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin City Manager Linda Smith has announced the appointment of Hazel Wetherford as the City’s new Deputy City Manager, effective July 31. Wetherford is currently serving as the City’s Economic Development Director.
In her redefined role, she will continue to oversee the City’s economic development with a specific focus on the creation of Downtown Dublin as well as on the extension of Dublin Boulevard to Livermore. Wetherford will also oversee the City’s legislative and disaster preparedness efforts, among other duties assigned by the City Manager.

“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Hazel Wetherford to the position of Deputy City Manager,” said City Manager Linda Smith. “Hazel has proven to be an invaluable asset to the City over the years and has led much of the City’s economic recovery efforts during the pandemic. She’s an innovative thinker and has the drive to bring two of the City’s top priorities to the forefront – Downtown Dublin and the extension of Dublin Boulevard to Livermore.”
Wetherford has worked for the City of Dublin for more than 12 years. Prior to her appointment as Economic Development Director, she has served as the City’s Assistant to the City Manager, the Parks Business Manager, as well as a Senior Management Analyst. Prior to joining Dublin, she worked for the City of Brentwood, California, and at the California State Legislature. She has also served as President of the Municipal Management Association of Northern California and volunteers her time with the Local Government Hispanic Network, the Urban Land Institute’s Technical Assistance for Communities, California Association for Economic Development, and the CalCities Diversity/Inclusion committee.

As previously mentioned, Wetherford will be spending the majority of her time implementing the Downtown Dublin redevelopment project, as well as the future Economic Development Zone, which will be established east of Fallon Road in Dublin, following the extension of Dublin Boulevard to Livermore. The Economic Development Zone will bring other sectors including life sciences, advanced manufacturing, clean/green technology, robotics, startups, and incubators to the area.
Ms. Wetherford holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco, is an Accredited California Economic Developer, a Credentialed Government Leader, and has more than 20 years of experience in local government administration.
