DUBLIN, CA — A candlelight vigil held Sunday night in Dublin honored the memories of those killed in the horrific Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton shootings. The 7:30 p.m. vigil was held at the Dublin Civic Center flag pole and lasted about an hour, according to Dublin City Councilmember Jean Josey, who co-hosted the event.

Approximately 24 people were in attendance, and they ranged in age from teens to senior citizens.

"The crowd was as diverse as Dublin, with people of multiple races and ethnicities, native born and foreign born present. About a third of them chose to speak," Josey said in an email to Patch.

"This was not a political event," Josey continued. "The intent was two-fold: to stand in solidarity with the communities that were directly impacted, as well as to allow our residents a chance to come together to express what they were feeling."

Josey said that while the entire Dublin City Council supported her in co-hosting the vigil, it was not an official city event. Councilmember Shawn Kumagai and Mayor David Haubert attended the vigil with Josey, and all three spoke during the somber hour. Councilmember Arun Goel and Vice Mayor Melissa Hernandez were out of town, but both sent sentiments, Josey said.
