Dublin Celebrates Emerald High Topping-Off Ceremony

The Dublin community celebrated the placement of the last beam on the structure. The EHS mascot was also revealed to be a serpent.

DUBLIN, CA – Dublin is one step closer to completing its second high school. On Nov. 4, the Dublin community gathered for the topping-off ceremony for Emerald High School, the first new comprehensive high school built in Alameda County in 50 years.

Crowds of residents and representatives from the Dublin Unified School District, the DUSD Board, the Citizen Bond Oversight Committee, the Dublin City Council, and members of the construction and design crew gathered at the construction site to celebrate the placement of the final beam atop the structure. Attendees were able to sign the beam before it was hoisted into place.

The campus, located at 3600 Central Parkway, expects to welcome 2,500 students when complete. The new high school will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will accommodate 1,300 students and feature an administration building, student union, kitchen, visual and performing arts center, library, gym, locker rooms, academy tower, tennis courts, a sports field and track. Phase 1 is expected to be complete by December 2023.

The district hopes to finish Phase 2, which will allow an additional 1,200 students, by the spring of 2025.

At the ceremony, EHS Principal Francis Rojas announced that the new school’s mascot will be a serpent, and it will fly a green, blue and silver flag. The mascot and colors were conceived and approved by 6th, 7th and 8th graders at Cottonwood and Fallon middle schools, which will be the feeder schools for EHS. A design team is currently working on Emerald High School serpent options, which will go to students for a final vote.
