Dublin Chamber Of Commerce: CITY OF DUBLIN TO FORM COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

The City of Dublin is initiating a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, designed to educate community members about disaster preparedness and train them with basic disaster response skills to help assist neighbors and other members of the community following a disaster.

CERT is a nationally supported initiative, organized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Locally, the Alameda County Fire Department will serve as the lead coordinator for Dublin’s CERT Program. CERT programs are traditionally conducted in-person during several classes with one additional “hands-on” skills class. However, due to COVID-19, the in-person classes are being conducted virtually, with the “hands-on” skills class to be taught in person at a later date.

The program will train participants on basic disaster response skills including:

• Emergency Preparation
• Team Organization
• Medical Operations
• Fire Safety
• Utility Control
• Search and Rescue (Light)
• Disaster Psychology

CERT is a free program, open to Dublin residents who are 18 years or older, or to 14- to 17-year-olds with approval of a parent or guardian. Class size is limited, and those residents who are unable to participate in this initial cohort will be placed on a wait list for a future cohort. Selected participants will have between April 1 and June 3, 2021, to complete the 20-hour virtual course.
