Dublin Endures Rain, Wind & Cold Ahead Of Election

DUBLIN, CA - It’s going to be a cold, wet and windy election in Dublin and much of California. A storm is bringing rain and high winds to much of the state, and a healthy sprinkling of snow to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is the second major rainstorm of the season: last Tuesday, Dublin got about a quarter of an inch of rain.

Dublin can expect rain and wind until later Wednesday, according to an Accuweather forecast. As of 2 p.m. Monday, it is 59 and partly sunny, with some showers expected later in the day that could deliver as much as a half-inch. Winds are reported to be 7 mph, but gusts could reach 10 mph.

Winds along the northern California coast are expected to reach up to 45 mph Monday, and the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for coastal areas through 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday is expected to be 55 degrees, but wind gusts of up to 20 mph will make it feel closer to 49. Five and a half hours of rain are expected to drop another 0.4 inches of rain.

Wednesday is expected to be 58, partly cloudy, with only one hour of rain delivering just 0.03 inches of rain. Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, 57, with no chance of rain.

Although flooding is unlikely, Dublin businesses and residents can pick up sandbags at the City of Dublin Corporation Yard at 5709 Scarlett Court. A self-serve, sandbag filling station is available with sand, shovels, and bags if the pre-filled bags are gone. The city asks that businesses and residents take 10 or fewer.

The Alameda County Public Works Agency also has sandbags available at their Maintenance and Operations Corporation Yard at 4825 Gleason Drive.

Here are a few flood safety tips, courtesy of the CDC and the City of Dublin:

• Gathering at least a 3-day supply of non-perishable food and water.
• Have immunization records handy.
• Check your emergency supplies.
• Bring in outdoor items or tie them securely.
• Keep your car fueled and cell phone charged.
• Avoid low-lying areas subject to flooding and don’t drive in flooded areas.
• Never drink flood water. During a water advisory, use only bottled, boiled, or treated water for drinking.
• Listen to boil advisories to know if water is safe for bathing and drinking.
• Use generators at least 20 feet from any doors, windows, or vents to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Clean debris from storm drains.
• Keep garbage cans and cars at least one foot from the curb to avoid blocking stormwater flows.
