Dublin Families Turn Out for Despicable Me
Hundreds brave unseasonably cool weather to enjoy the first City of Dublin Family Movie night of the summer
The first "" event of 2011 took place Friday night. Hundreds of Dublin residents came bundled up and prepared for the cool, misty weather.
While most snuggled close in blankets, one family setup a small tent as protection from the cool breeze. Hoodies and tuques replaced t-shirts and shorts as the fashion du jour.
The pre-movie music selection focused on family fun with 70s classics including "YMCA", bringing kids (and parents) to their feet dancing and spelling out each letter. And as moviegoers waited for dusk children played tag while teenagers tossed footballs.
The City of Dublin's Family Movies Under the Stars events are free and continue on Friday July 29 at Emerald Glen with "The Karate Kid" and Saturday August 13 at the Heritage Park & Museums with "True Grit" (the John Wayne original). Movies start at dusk and choice spots start getting snapped up as early as 7pm.
Many families come with snacks and drinks - for those that don't there is free popcorn and refreshingly low priced treats ($2 or less thanks to sponsor Hacienda Crossings).
Corporate sponsors of the events include , and the .
