Dublin High Concert Band to Premiere New Music at Carnegie Hall
Dublin High School band will travel to New York City March 24-28 to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of an educational experience.

The Dublin High Irish Guard Concert Band & Guard will head to New York’s Carnegie Hall where they will participate in the Sounds of Spring Festival March 24-28, 2018. The Irish Guard is one of six school high schools and two university bands selected from across the country. The band auditioned for the spot in the fall of 2016 and was accepted early spring of 2017. In addition, only one group was selected to work with a composer to develop a commissioned work that will be premiered at Carnegie Hall. The Dublin High Band received that honor. The concert band is currently working with composer Christopher Lowry of Nashville, Tenn. Dublin High Instrumental Music Director, Ms. Melissa Williams, is excited for the 88 students taking the trip. “This is a thrilling opportunity to bring a piece to life for the first time... This is truly a special experience for the students and it will add one more thing to make our New York trip memorable.”
The Irish Guard is honored to represent Dublin High and the greater Dublin community. The band will be adjudicated and given feedback, culminating with a public performance on March 27 in Carnegie Hall. The Concert Band will also perform in a free, public outdoor concert the day prior, as part of the experience.
Sending 88 students plus chaperones to New York is costly. Additional airline baggage charges for instruments and concert attire can add up quickly. The Dublin High Music Boosters is charged with raising funds to offset costs. They are currently selling candy canes with a raffle ticket to win one of two 2 sets of four Warriors tickets against the LA Clippers (Jan. 10) and Utah Jazz (Dec. 27). Drawing will be held Friday evening.
