Dublin High School Graduate Convicted Of Rape, Flees Courthouse: Reports

Former Dublin soccer star Arian Eteghaei, 23, was convicted of three counts of sexual assault, and fled the courthouse before being tackled.

DUBLIN, CA — A 23-year-old Dublin High School graduate convicted of rape broke free from bailiffs and then sprinted down a Santa Barbara street in an escape attempt, according to reports.

Last Friday, DHS alumnus and former soccer star Arian Eteghaei was convicted of forcible sexual penetration, domestic violence, and forcible rape, three out of 17 counts stemming from allegations from six different women at the University of California Santa Barbara.

After the verdict was announced, Eteghaei was escorted out of the courthouse by bailiffs, and then ran for about a block from the courthouse before he was eventually tackled, footage of which was obtained by the local news outlet Noozhawk. He will remain in custody until April, when he will be sentenced to anywhere from 30 years to life in prison.

Eteghaei was a standout soccer player at Dublin High School, where he graduated in 2020, according to the Bay Area News Group. In August 2021, he was arrested and criminally charged for alleged assaults on three different women, and was placed under house arrest in Dublin. During his trial, three more women came forward.

Eteghaei testified in his own defense during the trial, arguing that the sexual encounters were consensual. Victims gave emotional and harrowing accounts to the contrary.

The jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on 14 counts, according to reports. The jury reached a verdict on three counts last week, and told the judge that it did not wish to deliberate further, according to Noozhawk.

“The victims in this case showed remarkable bravery by coming forward, reporting the crimes, and taking the stand to testify during this lengthy trial. Their courage made it possible for the jury to hold the defendant accountable for his actions,” the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
