Dublin To Host Weekend 'Paint Out' Competition

Artists will paint outdoors all over Dublin this weekend in a city-sponsored competition.

DUBLIN, CA — If you take a stroll around Dublin this weekend, you may be surprised to see a number of painters set up with canvases, painting the arriving May flowers.

The artists are part of the Dublin Paint Out, an outdoor painting competition sponsored by the city and the Dublin Arts Collective.

Artists spread over the city on Saturday and Sunday will paint “en plein air,” or outdoors, the traditional method used by the landscape painters of old. On Sunday from 1-4, all art created during the competition will be displayed at Heritage Park. The public is welcome to view the art, meet the artists, and vote on which works they think are the best.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, an awards ceremony will grant prizes to the best painting, as decided by Judge Carolyn Lord. A people’s choice award will also be granted.

One painting will be awarded as Best of Show, and win $100 and a ribbon. Second-place winners will receive $50 each and a ribbon, while four Honorable Mentions will receive ribbons.
