Dublin Hosting July 4 Watermelon Eating Contest

Forget hot dogs - Dublin wants to see who can consume this quintessential summer snack in the fastest amount of time.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin's Red, White & Blue Backyard Bash will feature quite a bit of red, white, and green in the form of watermelons.

Registration is open for the Watermelon Eating Contest at the city's Red, White & Blue Backyard Bash. Two competitions at the Dublin Sports Ground will determine who can eat a set amount of watermelon in the fastest amount of time.

The kids competition for ages 7 to 14 will take place from 12:15 to 1 p.m., and the adults competition for ages 15 and over will take place from 2:15 to 3 p.m.

Dublin’s Red, White & Blue Backyard Bash is commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the 175th anniversary of California statehood. The celebration will take place July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dublin Sports Grounds. In addition to the watermelon eating contest, the family-friendly event will feature live entertainment, food, games, activities, and vendor booths. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
