A 59-year-old Dublin resident drowned while trying to swim without a lifejacket, according to local authorities.

DUBLIN, CA - A 59-year-old Dublin resident drowned after jumping into Pinecrest Lake in Stanislaus National Forest without a lifejacket, the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office told The Union-Democrat and Clarke Broadcasting.

TCSO spokesperson Ashley Boujikian told both outlets that the department received numerous reports of a possible drowning at the lake at 4 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Through witness interview and surveillance footage, deputies learned that Campbell had jumped into the water and struggled to re-enter the boat.

His friends pulled him back onto the boat and called for help while attempting to perform lifesaving measures while transporting him to the shore, Boujikian said. Medics also attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
