Dublin Mayor Addresses Traffic Safety Around Schools

DUBLIN, CA — In the wake of a recent study alleging unsafe traffic conditions around several Dublin schools,
Mayor David Haubert says he will bring the subject up during the next council meeting. On Thursday, Haubert says he visited Jose Maria Amador Elementary School in Dublin during the morning school drop off.

“I was pleased to find traffic moving smoothly with adult supervision and a team of students greeting each car to help students out and keep traffic moving,” Haubert said. “I was also pleased to see so many people walking to school. As a longtime supporter of ‘Safe Routes to School’ and ‘Walk-N-Roll’ programs, I know the importance and benefits this brings. I also observed a police officer watching carefully, keeping our residents safe. It is clear to me that city and school district staff are working well together.”

Despite a smooth morning at Amador, Haubert says there is always room for improvement. Haubert says he is in communication with the police department, school district and city officials about school traffic safety and believes communication and coordination of efforts are the keys to keeping all Dublin students safe.

The Zendrive study Haubert was concerned about captures driver data from smartphones and crunches that information in order to rank the schools, according to the company website. The site named Jose Maria Amador among other Alameda County schools as receiving an F grade for safety.

Haubert plans to discuss what additional steps may be taken and asks all drivers to obey the traffic laws and drive with “safety in mind.”
