Dublin Mourns The Loss Of Janet Lockhart, Former Mayor

DUBLIN, CA — Former Dublin Mayor Janet Lockhart passed away at age 78, the city announced. The City of Dublin flag at the Dublin Civic Center and Dublin Police Services headquarters will be lowered to half-staff until Monday, Feb. 9 in her memory.

Lockhart was elected to the Dublin City Council in 1996, and served as a council member from 1997 to 2001. She was first appointed mayor in 2001, then elected in 2002, and served until 2007.

Lockhart helped support the city during a period of significant growth and development, including the construction of Hacienda Crossings, the West Dublin-Pleasanton BART station, the Dublin Ranch development, and the opening of the Dublin Senior Center.

She also supported community initiatives like the School of Imagination, an educational campus for children with special needs.

Residents praised her as kind-hearted, friendly, and dedicated to the Dublin community in comments on the city's post.

"Without Janet there is no School of Imagination," the school wrote in a comment. "She and Steve gave so much of themselves to make Dublin an inclusive community. We think of them always and are forever grateful. Their legacy is a blessing to all of us. Thank you Janet for making this miracle happen."

"Janet didn’t hesitate to jump in to mentor and encourage younger women starting out in local politics or doing anything with the purpose of serving our community. She was always available when needed and was a neighbor and friend for many years. Her memory is most certainly a blessing," another commenter wrote.
