Dublin Resident Asks Council To Reconsider Flying LGBTQ Flag
Mike Grant says he is concerned that flying the LGBTQ flag at city hall "could lead to longterm issues."

Dear Editor:
I wanted to reach out to you regarding a detailed item that City Council is considering in the near future. It has been brought to my attention that the LGBTQ flag will be raised in front of city hall to celebrate diversity and recognize this specific group.
First and foremost, I applaud the city of Dublin for being progressive and recognizing this group and their journey for equality. I think that this puts the city a unique light and demonstrates the true diverse culture of Dublin.

We live in a community where cultures are shared around the world and honoring one group in
front of city hall and not another could and should be considered special treatment. I have no
objections to those that are LGBTQ, however I am aware of others that take a different stance. This
action would set a precedent for the city which at first would seem a great unifier, nonetheless
could lead to long term issues.
The question I would ask is the following; how would the city react when divisive groups ask for the same treatment? If groups that represent a celebratory religious function, or extreme views would want their flags hoisted in front of city hall, would this council also react in the same manner?

My suggestion and or recommendation is that this council take a proclamation to honor those that
are LGBTQ, however allowing the flag to fly would just be opening up pandora’s box and could lead to further tensions down the road.
Sincerely,
Mike Grant
