Dublin School Superintendent Steps Down

Dr. Leslie Boozer had been with the district since 2016.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin Unified School District Dr. Leslie Boozer has stepped down as the superintendent. Boozer’s last day was March 26. She had been with the district since 2016.

The surprising announcement was made Tuesday night during the school board meeting. Boozer resigned amid stalling contract negotiations with the Dublin teachers and just weeks after longtime school board member Dan Cunningham submitted his verbal resignation. In February, Niranjana Natarajan, a newly appointed Trustee, was terminated after a community petition was filed with the county.

The district issued a statement about Boozer’s abrupt departure.

The Dublin Unified School District Board of Education and Superintendent Leslie Boozer mutually agreed to a separation, effective March 26, 2019. The Board is grateful to Dr. Boozer for her time with the District and wishes her well in her new endeavors.

The district said Dr. Matt Campbell, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, will serve as the acting superintendent, until an interim superintendent is put in place.

Earlier this month, 98 percent of Dublin Teachers Association membership who voted approved a strike. The DTA has been haggling over a new contract for the past year and declared an impasse in January – an action that triggered the involvement of a state mediator.

If there is a strike, teachers won't be hitting the sidewalks until the state-mandated mediation, fact-finding and arbitration process is completed, something that will take a few weeks.

Boozer on Wednesday issued a statement about her resignation and wished the community well.

Dear Dublin Community:
Thank you to the students, families, teachers, staff, administrators, and Board of Trustees
of the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD). I regret to share that Tuesday, March 26th
is my last day in DUSD. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as the DUSD
superintendent since July 2016. During this time, the Dublin school community has
grown by over 20 percent to more than 12,300 students in 12 schools.
Despite our rapid growth, we have continued our commitment to excellent schools. I am
proud of the many accomplishments our schools and District continue to earn and thank
our outstanding teachers and staff for making it happen. For the last two years, DUSD
was named to Niche Top 100 Best School Districts in California. We have also been
recognized on the Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Roll for the last three years
and Dublin High School was chosen as a PLTW Distinguished School. Having recently
crafted a new strategic vision, mission and core values, I am confident that the foundation
is in place to guide the work to come.
Through the efforts of our leadership team, we have effectively managed our rapid
growth and facility planning. We selected the Promenade site for the future high school
and started the design process. Our governance team has committed to a complete
modernization of Murray Elementary School and Frederiksen Elementary School, as well
as established priorities for Measure E that will guide our future expansion over the next
several years.
Thank you again for this opportunity and I wish the best for the Dublin community as
they select the future leaders of DUSD.
Sincerely,
Dr. Leslie A. Boozer
