Dublin Students Fundraise For COVID-19 Efforts Through Tutoring

DUBLIN, CA — A group of STEM-minded Dublin High School students are offering tutoring to students for $10 per hour, with proceeds benefiting a coronavirus response fund organized by Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Four seniors with smarts in science, technology, engineering and math-related subjects such as biology, ecology and biochemistry will offer virtual tutoring sessions and experiments that can be performed at home, the school's STEM Initiative Team said in an email.

Seventy-five percent of the tutoring fee will benefit the Johns Hopkins Medicine fund, while the rest help cover costs the program. Donations to the Johns Hopkins Medicine fund will help support costs of COVID-19 patient care and COVID-19 research, according to the fund's website.

"We understand these are unprecedented times and we would like to play our part in helping students within our community," they wrote.

The STEM Initiative Team also offers free virtual classes in chemistry, biology, math, engineering and biomedical science, students wrote. Experiments and activities will be mailed to participants for free.
