Dublin St. Patrick's Day 2024: What To Know

It's almost time for Dublin's iconic weekend of Celtic festivities.

DUBLIN, CA — It’s almost that time of year: when the Luck of the Irish comes to Dublin and brings a weekend of St. Patrick’s Day revelry. This year, Dublin will celebrate its 40th St. Patrick’s Day with a gala, parade, pancake breakfast, race, and drone show. Here are all the different events, in order of occurrence:

Shamrock Gala: Festivities start Friday, March 15 with the Dublin Historical Society’s Shamrock Gala at the Shannon Community Center. The adult event will feature dinner, music, dancing, a raffle, and door prizes. The gala will be attended by MicheĆ”l Smith, Ireland’s Consul General to the Western United States, Vice Consul Jennifer Chadwick, and Jerry Buttimer, the An Cathaoirleach, or chairperson of the Irish Upper House, similar to the U.S. Senate Majority Leader. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at dublinhistoricalsociety.org.

Annual Firefighter’s Pancake Breakfast: The following morning, enjoy a stack of green pancakes fresh off the griddle, along with sausages, juice and coffee. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5. All proceeds go to the Alameda County Firefighters Association Local Charity 55 Fund, to support local charitable organizations. The breakfast will take place Saturday morning from 7 to 10 a.m. at Firehouse 16, 7494 Donohue Drive.

40th St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The cornerstone of weekend festivities will start soon after the breakfast. Grab a lawn chair and/or blanket, and head enjoy a parade that will feature more than 80 floats, including festive marching bands, bagpipes, classic cars, dance troupes, equestrians, local leaders and more. The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. at Dublin Boulevard and Amador Plaza Road, and continue along Dublin Boulevard, Village Parkway, and Amador Valley Boulevard, ending at the Dublin Senior Center.

St. Patrick’s Day Festival: This two-day festival at the Dublin Civic Center will feature all kinds of Irish-themed entertainment, from an Irish Marketplace specializing in Celtic crafts, an Irish Tea Cottage full of tea cookies, shortbreads, scones, and tea; Irish music and dance from a wide variety of performers; and the Celtic International Food Court, offering everything from Guiness-marinated Irish soda bread to shamrock-shaped funnel cakes to traditional fish and chips. The Festival will also feature a carnival with rides open Saturday, and a St. Patrick’s Day-themed drone show starting at 7:30 p.m.

Shamrock 5K Fun Run and Walk: The annual race will start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday along Dublin Boulevard near the Civic Center, finishing with a festival with live music, awards, and giveaways. The top three finishers will win a medallion and gift certificate from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Register here.
