Dublin 'Trick Or Trash' Event To Collect Recyclables

Dublin teens are organizing the Oct. 31 event to help build a school and irrigation system in Sierra Leone, Africa.

DUBLIN, CA — Instead of setting candy out on your front porch this year, why not leave a bag of recyclables?

The Dublin High School ME to WE Club is organizing a "Trick or Trash" event Oct. 31 to fundraise to build a school and irrigation system in Sierra Leone, Africa, said club President Shrey Raj.

Sierra Leone's civil war was responsible for the destruction of 1,270 schools, according to Africa.com. Two in five Sierra Leone residents are literate.

Volunteers with the club will conduct contactless pick-ups of plastic bottles, cans, milk cartons and other recyclables from 2 to 6 p.m. Volunteers ask that residents leave trash bags of recyclables on their lawn or porch by 2 p.m. and sort their own recyclables, if possible.

Volunteers will take the bags to local recycling plants in exchange for cash.
