Dublin Unified BOT Affirm Immigration Resolution

From Dublin Unified School District: At the Tuesday, January 24 regular meeting, Dublin Unified Board of Trustees voted unanimously in support of Resolution 2016/17-27, Affirming the Support of Students and Families Regarding Immigration Enforcement Actions at Schools.

“Students learn best when they feel safe and secure,” said Board President Megan Rouse. “This Resolution is a confirmation of the Board’s commitment to maintaining our schools as a safe place for all students and families. After thorough and thoughtful dialogue, I’m proud the Board took this important step with unanimous support.”

The Resolution affirms that all DUSD students, regardless of perceived or actual national origin, citizenship and immigration status, have a right to a high-quality public education; and that the District, while acting in compliance with federal and state law, supports the maintenance of Dublin schools as safe places for students and families.

The Resolution also affirms the “highest respect for our law enforcement agencies and the critical work they do and respects the partnership between the District and law enforcement agencies."

The District is prepared to assist families seeking social and legal services with resources guides and referral contacts. These resource guides are available at all school sites.

In December, the State Superintendent of Schools, Tom Torlakson issued a letter statewide affirming that all California public schools remain “safe havens” for California students. Dublin is one of many districts around the state to pass individual resolutions in support of that stance.
