Dublin Voters Approve $96 Parcel Tax To Help Fund DUSD Schools

The Measure E parcel tax was approved by Dublin voters during Tuesday's special election.

DUBLIN, CA — A parcel tax in Dublin that was set to expire in June will continue following passage of Measure E by voters during Tuesday's special election. Although the Alameda County Registrar of Voters has yet to certify the final election results, with all precincts reporting the tallies show nearly 75 percent of Dublin voters who turned out approved the $96 per parcel tax. The measure's passage ensures approximately $1.7 million in annual local tax revenue will continue to flow into the Dublin Unified School District.

“This result reaffirms one of the characteristics of Dublin and its citizens that I love most,” said DUSD board of trustees president Amy Miller. “Our kids always come first! There is widespread support for education, and that has been the case for as long as I can remember. I want to thank our community for continually supporting our efforts to provide the best quality education for our students.”

Since 2008, the community has supported and renewed a local $96 parcel tax that provides funding for the DUSD. According to the district, the funding helps maintain a high level of reading, writing, math and science instruction in DUSD schools and helps keep high-quality teachers in the classrooms. With Measure E's passage, the parcel tax benefitting the DUSD will continue for another nine years.

“You might think a parcel tax supporting public education would be an easy sell, but it’s not. I’ve seen many communities reject similar measures,” said Dave Marken, DUSD interim superintendent. “Given the state of funding for public education in California, this level of community support is essential to maintain our high quality of education. Measure E will help bridge the gap between where we are and where we should be, making Dublin a better place to learn. This is a tremendous win for our community.”
