DUI Checkpoints, Extra Patrols Planned In Dublin
Dublin Police Services said it will institute checkpoints at undisclosed locations on Friday night.

DUBLIN, CA — Dublin police will hold a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city from 7 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, Dublin Police Services announced.
The department also said that extra officers will be on patrol from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday looking for drivers suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Checkpoints and patrols will be in effect in locations with a history of DUI-related collision and arrests.
Impaired driving includes driving under the influence of cannabis, or over-the-counter medications that provide a warning not to operate heavy machinery on their container.

Anyone planning to drink is advised to find a designated sober driver, a ride-share company, a cab, or public transportation to get home.
DUI-related costs, which include penalties and legal fees, can add up to thousands of dollars, a 6-month driver’s license suspension, and possible jail time, depending on past charges and aggravating factors like excessive speed or the presence of a minor.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at a significant risk,” Dublin Police Services Captain Nate Schmidt said in a statement. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
