Forward Progress Stopped On Eden Fire: Alameda County Fire

Forward progress has been stopped on a roughly 50-acre fire, and structure damage has been mitigated, CalFire reported.

DUBLIN, CA — Forward progress has been stopped on a roughly 50-acre vegetation fire burning east of Eden Canyon around Schaefer Ranch Road Monday afternoon, Alameda County Fire reported.

No formal evacuation orders have been issued and structure threats have been mitigated, Cal Fire spokesperson Josh Shifrin told Patch. Shifrin estimated the fire is at about 10% containment.

No injuries or building damage have been reported as of 6:15 p.m.

The Shannon Community Center will serve as an evacuation and family reunification zone in case of evacuations. Patch is awaiting word on how many homes were evacuated and the final acreage of the fire.

Dublin Boulevard has been closed to westbound traffic at Inspiration Drive for up to two hours, the city said.

A two-acre fire just north of I-580 was first reported at around 4:15 p.m., when CHP officers responded to reports of a burning vehicle in westbound I-580 lanes near the Eden Canyon Road off-ramp. The car fire spread to nearby vegetation, according to the East Bay Times.

As of 5:46 p.m., the fire has spread to at least 20 acres and some structures are reported to be threatened off Schaefer Ranch Road, according to Cal Fire. At least two lanes are blocked on I-580.

“Significant” resources from Alameda County Fire, Cal Fire, and the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department are being deployed in the area, the city of Dublin said.

The fire broke out in 95-degree heat. An excessive heat watch has been issued for Tuesday, when temperatures around Dublin are expected to reach 100 and over.
