City of Dublin Event Press Release
The City of Dublin will be hosting a unique presentation of poetry and spoken word, “Celebrating African American Poetry” on Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Heritage Park Sunday School Barn, located at 6600 Donlon Way in Dublin.
Special guest poets and storytellers will deliver a memorable performance as they take you on a stroll down memory lane to the Civil Rights Era of poetry. The performance will include works that impacted a nation from the early 1940’s through the 1970’s. Following the presentation, there will be an Open Mic event where audience members may share their own poems.

The event will be hosted by Dublin’s poet laureate, Jonnie McCoy-Howell. Ms. Howell draws most of her influence from social and economic pressures in life that often reflect stories of endurance and perseverance. She believes that a writer has a great responsibility to influence, inspire and provoke thought towards change in others.
