“Dementia Care in the Covid-19 Era”
Adjusting to and coping with a pandemic is challenging for all of us, but for the person living with dementia and their care partners, it can be debilitating. Hope’s specialists will discuss how dementia impacts thinking and behavior, examine how this condition coupled with the necessary virus-prevention measures can further complicate the caregiving experience, and provide strategies that can help care partners cope with these challenges and focus on the well-being of their loved ones and themselves.

“An Introduction to Hospice and Answers to Common Questions”
If you or a loved one is facing a life-limiting illness, you may have discussed the option of hospice care with your personal physician. The decision to go onto hospice means that you have decided to no longer pursue curative care and that life expectancy outside of such treatment is 6 months or less. This webinar will educate you about how hospice care works: what services it provides, how the costs of care are handled, what types of medical professionals are involved in the care team, which choices you have, and many other common questions we at Hope get from our client families. This is a great opportunity to learn about the hospice process and ask questions of our team.
Wednesday, October 21, 10–11:30 a.m.
“Dementia GEM States”
We hear statements like “my mother has late-stage dementia,” but what does that mean? Most of the medical community uses this language about “stages” to describe the severity of a patient’s dementia symptoms, but perhaps there’s a better, more positive way to discuss our loved ones living with dementia and the deficits they face as thedisease progresses. This webinar is about the GEMS® cognitive model, which uses a metaphor of precious stones to categorize challenges a person living with dementia may face from day to day. The focus is then placed on modifying environments, interactions, and expectations to create positive engagement between the patient and care partners.
Thursday, October 29, 10–11:30 a.m.
“Eating for Wellness”
The secret to lifelong wellness is to form a healthy daily eating pattern and exercise plan, not a regimented routine. This presentation will provide an explanation of key nutrients and tips on making smart food choices.
