DUBLIN, CA — The California Highway Patrol's Dublin chapter is hiring young people to assist officers as part of its Explorer Program and will host two open houses in the coming months. Explorers join in on ride-alongs and shift briefings, and help officers at impaired driver checkpoints, traffic control operations and more. They are trained in procedures for events such as searches, foot pursuits, felony traffic stops, impaired driver stops and SWAT entries.

"We are excited to work with the explorers as we serve and engage with our community," said Dublin CHP Cpt. Christopher Sherry in a press release. "This program will make these young adults better citizens and prepare them for a possible career in law enforcement."

Explorers must be between the ages of 15 to 21, maintain a GPA of at least 2.0, abstain from drugs and alcohol, have no felony convictions and be good citizens, CHP said. And they must, of course, be interested in law enforcement.
