Mom, Child Escape Dublin House Fire
A smoke detector alerted the woman to the kitchen fire. Officials said she tried to extinguish it with a towel before evacuating.

DUBLIN, CA — A mother and her 5-year-old son were forced to evacuate from their Dublin home Monday afternoon after small fire started in their kitchen, fire officials said. The blaze was reported just before 3 p.m. in the 7600 block of Cardigan Street in Dublin.
Fire officials said a hallway smoke detector alerted the woman, who was in the bedroom with her son at the time, to the kitchen fire. The woman tried to extinguish the blaze using a towel but was unsuccessful and they were forced to evacuate. The fire spread to some nearby cabinets and the attic area.
Alameda County, Livermore-Pleasanton and San Ramon Valley Fire departments all responded to the blaze. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames. The fire displaced eight residents. Fire officials said the Red Cross helped them find temporary shelter. No one was injured during the blaze.
