New school year begins in Dublin
Dublin was a hive of activity on the first day of the new school year.
Students in the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) attended the first day of the new school year today. DUSD Staff had been preparing for their arrival for a while and classrooms were ready to welcome them.
There were all sorts of emotions at play for students, parents and teachers. There was a mixture of excitement and nervousness and for some parents a tinge of sadness as they saw their children making the way through milestones like the first day of kindergarten, middle school or high school.
Some grandparents were also on hand to provide encouragement like Brigadere and Mrs Avtar Singh who travelled from India to make sure they would be present for their grandchildren's first day.

Each classroom is a unique combination of varying personalities which some students approached with enthusiasm and others with some trepidation. There were joyful smiles at the sight of someone familiar and high fives for the extra enthusiastic. There was also anxiousness and extra kisses and cuddles from family members were necessary for a few as a boost before entering their classrooms.
In a sweet first day of school moment, one young student handed his new teacher a beautiful bouquet. When asked about the lovely gesture his Mom, Desi Astinova said "We always bring flowers on the first and on the last day to school for Vic’s teachers each year. In Bulgaria this is a custom and everyone does it because it is expected. It’s the norm. Here it’s a choice. But we still do it because we teach Victor that manners do matter and that it is important to be cultured in these crazy surreal times we live in - not just educated on facts, reason and logic, but also being kind, respectful, considerate, well mannered."
