Pleasanton Completes Hopyard Road Signal Upgrade

PLEASANTON, CA — Pleasanton completed a traffic signal upgrade at the intersection of Hopyard Road and North Valley Trails and Arthur Drive, a project the city said is intended to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

The improvement included new signal poles, updated signal heads, rewiring and minor concrete work to improve traffic operations at the intersection. The city also added protected left turn phases for eastbound and westbound traffic as part of the completed work.

According to the city, the protected left turn phases separate left turns from through traffic and eliminate conflicts between left-turning vehicles and pedestrians in crosswalks. With the update, left turns now operate independently, while pedestrian signals run alongside through traffic movements.

The proven safety measure will be included in the city's upcoming Transportation Safety Action Plan, a plan to bring the city in accordance with the requirements of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets for All Program.
