Quarry Lane Students Rank Among Top 7% in Global Math Contest
Quarry Lane high school students were recently designated as finalists in the High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling.

The Quarry Lane School high school team earned a Finalist designation 22nd Annual High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM). The team was comprised of Quarry Lane students Neha Pant, Gieun (Christine) Kim, Sujay Champati, Saahil Sachdeva, and faculty advisor, Dr. Thuy Pham. Out of 792 teams that competed worldwide, the team ranked among the top 7%.
The HiMCM offers students the opportunity to compete in teams using mathematics to create solutions to real-world modeling problems. The contest is designed to give students the opportunity to improve their modeling, problem solving, and writing skills, as well.
The Quarry Lane team worked together during a two-week period and wrote a paper to model the various consequences of a ban of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles which included models for economic, environmental, and health impacts. The team, along with the other 61 teams from the United States, qualified to compete in the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge to be held in April of this year.
