School District, Dublin Teachers Reach Labor Agreement

The teachers and board reached an impasse earlier this year.

DUBLIN, CA — Weeks after teachers in Dublin marched in solidarity to a school board meeting, the Dublin Unified School District Board of Trustees voted 5-0 to approve a labor agreement with Dublin Teachers Association. The proposed agreement was presented to the board on Dec. 12 after the teachers and district met with a mediator on December 7.

Terms of the agreement included:

  • A two percent ongoing raise for the 2016-17 school year, retroactive to July 1, 2016
  • A one percent ongoing raise for the 2017-18 school year
  • An additional, one-time 1.5 percent bonus/off-schedule payment for 2017-18
  • In addition to the pay increases, the District will form a benefits committee in January to begin exploring healthcare options for DUSD teachers and staff.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement that allows the district to increase the compensation for our hardworking, dedicated teachers and staff, while maintaining the excellent programs we all care so much about," Amy Miller, Board of Trustees President said in a statement. "We are committed to all students and recognize that our excellent teachers support their success everyday."

The teachers have been negotiating their compensation with the board after an impasse was declared this year.

"The Board of Trustees and staff are grateful to the Dublin Teachers Association, who worked
collaboratively through a lengthy negotiations period, as well as to the mediator who helped the
negotiating parties find common ground and proposed a workable solution," the board said in a statement this week. "DUSD leadership expressed hope that future negotiations will share the spirit of cooperation that led to the agreement now in place. The Dublin community has many needs and goals for its rapidly growing school district, and it is essential the district and its union partners continue to work together to provide our children the excellent education they deserve."
