Local Scouts gather food for Alameda County Food Bank
Scouting for Food in 2020 by Roma Bishop, Troop 947
Scouting for Food is the annual food-collection drive of the Boy Scouts of America and Golden Gate Area Council. It is a worthwhile service activity for our youth and another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are here—being helpful and still doing good turns.
Things were certainly different this year.

The Scouts were not able to do door hangers or go door-to-door for collections, so they had to be a little more creative. Through a combination of email, personal texts and social media, the Scouts and leaders of Pack and Troop 947 reached out to friends and neighbors. The response was positive and very generous.
Picking up on an individual basis with parents driving, the Scouts collected nearly 1500 non-perishable food items November 4-14. On Saturday morning the food was counted, sorted and delivered to a drop-off point in Dublin where other Scouts loaded the items to go to the Alameda County Food Bank in Oakland.
