Student Wants Second High School In East Dublin: Letter To Editor

Aditya Verma says traffic and overcrowding are very concerning to students and parents.

Dear Editor,

I am Aditya Verma, a sophomore at Dublin High school. I will voice three thoughts I feel are problems to students success: the rejection of students from classes, the overwhelming of sport coaches and facilities, and the traffic stress parents have to suffer through. I am enrolled in the Biomedical Academy, a very well-built class for students which enjoy the medical sciences.

When I was an eighth grader in Fallon middle school, we were given the choice of picking the Biomedical Academy as our elective throughout our high school career. While many people picked Biomed as their choice of elective many of them were on the unfortunate side and were rejected due to the shortage of seats and classrooms. The school simply could not live up to the demand of their own students.

More of my friends would have been able to choose their interests if it was not for the shortage of seats. The current high school is rejecting many students like this from their own interests and there seems to be no help coming from anywhere to allow students to take their classes. I propose that instead of allowing the Dublin Crossing homes to become a school location, which would prevent students from being rejected.

As a varsity track athlete, I can feel the pressure coaches feel when the track is crammed when sprinters have to run when cross country also has to run. The fields simply cannot take 700 athletes at one time, and that limit overlaps over to the coaches having to reject or move other students to different sections of track which they may not enjoy.

Traffic is one of the most important detriments to students success. During morning hours, Dublin Boulevard is jam-packed with cars. The commute to Dublin high should take around 15 minutes but with the overflowing of students, it takes no less than 30 minutes to arrive on time.

All these factors and detriments to students comes down to one ultimate solution: a second high school in the East Dublin area.

Thanks,
Aditya Verma, Dublin resident
