SUV Lands on Sidewalk Near BART Platform After Plummeting Off I-580

Fire officials say the two women in the SUV were taken to a nearby trauma center.

Two women in an SUV were taken to the hospital after their car swerved off of I-580, plunging about 25 feet through a gap between the Dublin/Pleasanton BART platform and the freeway on Monday afternoon, Livermore Pleasanton Battalion Chief Joe Testa said.

“We found a single vehicle that had left I-580 westbound, taken out a metal guard rail and squeezed through a gap just big enough for a vehicle between the freeway and the BART platform landing on the sidewalk below,” Testa said. “The two occupants of the SUV were transported by Paramedics Plus to the trauma center.

CHP officials have not been reached for comment as to the cause of the crash. No one on the sidewalk was injured during the collision, according to Testa.

“People were on the platform,” Testa said. “The sidewalk below where the car landed is well traveled, too. It was fortunate no one was hit.”
