Dublin High School Students Tour City's Energy Improvements

Students toured energy improvements made across the city, including EV charging fleets, HVAC upgrades, and new LED lighting.

DUBLIN, CA — Students from Dublin High School’s Engineering and Design Academy toured the many energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement projects throughout Dublin.

In July 2021, the city council approved a contract with engineering and energy solutions company Willdan to work on a number of projects throughout the city designed to help the city reach goals in its Climate Action Plan 2030, save up to $28 million in utility costs over the next 25 years, and increase resiliency during planned and unplanned power outages.

  • Solar panels at ten sites, plus battery storage at four locations.
  • Replacement of aging generators for emergency back-up power.
  • Back-up power for 22 traffic signals using either hydrogen fuel cells or lithium-ion batteries.
  • Energy-efficient upgrades to eight sites.
  • LED lighting replacements at 15 locations, including building interiors and exteriors, parks, and streetlights.
  • New electric vehicle charging stations at the Dublin Sports Ground and Public Safety Complex.

As of Aug. 26, lighting replacements have been completed in several sites, solar panels have been installed at Corporation Yard and Fire Stations 17 and 18, and park lighting has been upgraded at a number of parks, including Alamo Creek and Emerald Glen.

Solar panel installation is currently in progress at Dublin Library, Fallon Sports Park, The Wave, and the Dublin Senior Center.
