Tri-Valley CHP Office Hosts Juneteenth Event: Letter
CHP writes: The event included presentations, African-American/Black history exhibits, and dialogue with law enforcement officers.

DUBLIN, CA - On Friday, June 19, 2020, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Dublin Office celebrated Juneteenth with an online event. The Virtual Juneteenth event was co-hosted by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) and was broadcast live on Facebook. Captain Chris Sherry, Commander of the Dublin CHP, welcomed everyone following online and started the program. He related the events’ three goals were to celebrate Juneteenth, learn something new about African-American/Black history, and get to know law enforcement officers and professionals.
ACSO Captain Mike Carroll provided remarks and CHP Officer Morgan Bounds talked about the CHP’s first African-American Officer Homer Garrott, who went on to become a municipal judge in Southern California. ACSO Technician Titus Taylor provided a historical perspective of Juneteenth and Mothers Against Drunk Driving Northern California Regional Executive Director Natasha Thomas provided encouraging remarks pertaining to MADD’s relationship with law enforcement.

The next portion of the event was a walk-through of an African-American/Black History exhibit, which was displayed. ACSO Technician Titus Taylor explained the history and importance of various pieces of his personal collection. He discussed the Tuskegee Airmen, Buffalo Soldiers, Black Deputy Marshals, and much more. The online event concluded with interviews of various officers/deputies discussing why they joined law enforcement, what they liked best about law enforcement, and what Juneteenth meant to them.
