Tri-Valley Teens Fundraise To Create PPE With 3D Printer
Two local students have distributed more than 2,000 contactless door openers for homeless shelters, child care centers and more.

DUBLIN, CA — Two Dublin high school students are fundraising to create and distribute PPE for Bay Area facilities that serve children and disadvantaged groups.
Derek Xu and Vikas Ummadisetty, who run nonprofit organization YouthPPE, have already created more than 2,000 hands-free door-openers using a 3D printer and distributed the devices to facilities such as Dublin Extended Day Child Care and others in Hayward, Menlo Park, San Francisco and beyond.
They engineered and designed the devices, which can be used to open doors with lever-shaped door handles.

"The most rewarding part of this journey of our organization has been actually hearing back from our recipients and seeing our positive impact on them, Xu and Ummadisetty wrote in an email.
The public can get involved by donating here on GoFundMe and helping to cover the cost of 3D printing supplies, shipping and Bay Area organizations.
