Trustee Appointed to Dublin Unified School Board

Two final candidates were vying for the seat vacated by Sean Kenney, who resigned from the Board on July 31, 2015.

Sameer Hakim, a technology professional who has served the Dublin school community for the past year as an active member of the District Optimization Committee, was named to the Dublin Unified Board of Trustees Tuesday, concluding the provisional appointment process to fill the seat vacated by Sean Kenney, who resigned from the Board on July 31, 2015.

Hakim was sworn into his seat following the public appointment process and began serving immediately. His term runs through November 2016, when the seat will become open for a two-year term in the fall 2016 election cycle.

“We went through a very professional and fair process to appoint Sameer Hakim to the Board of Trustees,” said Board President Amy Miller. “Both of our final two candidates had many strengths that would be an asset to any Board and it was a difficult decision. Sameer will bring a diverse perspective to the board based on his professional background and life experience. I am confident he will be a strong representative of our community and will work hard to serve our students with integrity and dedication.”

Hakim was born and raised in Mumbai, India. He current works for Albertsons-Safeway in Pleasanton. He has a student at Kolb Elementary School. Hakim served this past year on the District Optimization Committee, contributing to the recommendations made to the Board of Trustees about effort to help manage growth at our elementary and middle school levels.

“Thank you for your support and the opportunity to serve,” Hakim said. “I am humbled and honored. I am ready to work for educational excellence for all kids in Dublin.”

Hakim has served the Dublin Unified Community as a member of Kolb Elementary’s School Site Council, the Kolb Safety Committee and as a member of the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Committee.
