Board solicits search firm to begin search for new leader

DUBLIN, CA: The Dublin Unified Board of Trustees initiated the process of hiring a new Superintendent at a special meeting Thursday night.

The Board approved a Request for Proposal (RFP) for public sector executive search firms, the start of what will likely be a four-month process to select a successor to Dr. Stephen Hanke.

Hanke, who has served as Superintendent of the Dublin Unified School District for the past 10 years, announced his retirement at the Board of Trustees meeting on January 26. Hanke’s retirement from the position will be effective June 30, 2016.

The Board’s initiation of the search process is intended to put a new superintendent in place upon Dr. Hanke’s departure. The details of the selection process will be determined when a search firm is contracted. By consensus, the Board selected a sub-committee of two Trustees

  • Board President Dan Cunningham and Trustee Sameer Hakim - to screen search firms.
  • The Board will agendize the criteria for selecting a firm at Tuesday night’s regular-meeting.
  • The Board received guidance on the selection process from legal counsel Robert Kingsley of Kingsley Bogard LLP. Kingsley also counseled Dublin in their last Superintendent’s search 10 years ago.

“The Board is looking forward to starting the process of selecting a new leader,” Cunningham said. “We understand the importance of this decision for our district and we are focused on finding the right search firm to assist us.”
