VIDEO: Santa Rita Jail Take-Down Leads to Lawsuit

A woman being booked into jail ended up face down in a pool of blood, with broken bones and knocked-out teeth.

A night of heavy drinking ended with Megan Sheehan’s arrest for being drunk and disorderly. She doesn’t dispute that. What she does take issue with is her treatment while being booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Sheehan is now suing the Oakland Police Department and BART over injuries she suffered that night.

It happened on St. Patrick’s Day last year. Sheehan was taken into custody at Lake Merritt BART station, where she admits being drunk and belligerent.

While being booked into jail, an altercation happened with Sheehan. Video obtained by ABC7 News shows an Oakland cop grabbing her right hand while the BART officer takes her left hand and they throw her down face first.

Jail nurses were called. Sheehan was treated and transported to a hospital. “I don’t believe that they should have broken four bones in my face and knocked out some of my teeth,” Sheehan said.

BART and OPD declined to comment because of the pending litigation.
