West Dubliners’ Peace and Quiet
New stadium and amphitheater proposed on the Valley Christian School site

Valley Christian in West Dublin needs a new sports field and has applied to amend their master plan to include both a stadium and an amphitheater. The old field is on the southwestern portion of the VCC site and the new stadium will be on the Northeastern portion of the site. Both stadium and amphitheater will be equipped with sound amplification and the field with lights.
The application has already been approved by the Dublin City Planning Commission with proper notice. However, most who read it assumed the new stadium will only be used for a modest number of home games of VCC’s sports. However, according to the Planning Commission’s report that assumption is not so clear. Nothing prevents VCC from renting out the field, which accommodates 1100 spectators, for example. The sound study did not account for the considerable wind west to east on their hilltop.
Some neighbors were specifically notified and others were not. When people studied the report, they discovered the amount of potential use and began a campaign to stop or limit the proposal. More citizens emailed the council than on any previous issue. The council was to decide whether to approve or not at their September 4th meeting. Because of the sudden opposition, the decision was postponed until the October 2nd meeting. Any concerned west Dubliner should attend.
