Widow of Brian Beasley Creates Scholarship in Husband's Honor
A fundraiser for the scholarship is being held this Saturday to benefit student athletes at Dublin High School
After losing her husband in 2012, a Dublin woman created a scholarship fund in his name for student athletes. Dublin resident Charlene Beasley lost her husband, Brian Beasley, on Sept. 29. Beasley has organized a poker fundraiser to benefit the scholarship fund honoring her husband's memory.
The inaugural fundraiser, held this Saturday at the Pleasanton Masonic Center, will include dinner and poker and the proceeds will benefit the "Brian Beasley Athletic Scholarship Fund."
Beasley, who refers to her husband as a "passionate athlete," told Patch, via email:
"I set up the Brian Beasley Athletic Scholarship Fund last year in September when my husband passed away. He was a passionate athlete and loved kids of all ages and I thought this was a perfect way to honor his memory. My vision is to help student athletes at Dublin High School with opportunities to secure athletic scholarships for college. I will be putting a team of professionals together to help them be successful in all areas of their life. I will be working with recruiting specialists, tutors, therapists and others to ensure the students we help will be getting what they need to become successful."
Beasley says the cost for the night is $100 per person and although space is limited, there is still room for more players.

Poker players will vie for cash prizes ranging from $500 to $200, Beasley said.
The evening's events will be emceed by Dublin Councilmember David Haubert who says Brian may have been the "best guy ever."

"By doing this, we can change lives in a positive way," Beasley commented. "I will be forming a non-profit organization, along with a board of directors, that will help in the selection process of the student athletes. At this time the fund is at Dublin High School and all checks can be made out to Dublin High School with a memo stating the Brian Beasley Fund."
